When Subscription Ends

I'm thinking about letting my subscription to Dofus lapse because I'm going to be too busy to play in the next couple of months. I don't think I want to quit outright and never play again but I don't know what will happen to my characters if I don't stay p2p.

Does anyone know if I can still access them if I subscribe again someday? Or will letting my p2p time end kill them or something? (I couldn't find any info on this on the forum or community website so I thought I'd ask)
